Zaza Marjanishvili, Jazz pianist/composer comes from Tbilisi, in the Republic of Georgia. I met Zaza in Hot Springs, Arkansas, not long after hurricane Katrina had forced Zaza to flee New Orleans, were he lived and worked as a jazz musician. Since hurricane Katrina, Hot Springs has become somewhat of a mecca for artists and musicians from New Orleans, offering open arms to a fledgling communitee of creative people, displaced by the disaster further south. Since this shoot in November of 2005, Zaza has returned to his native Georgia instead of returning to New Orleans or staying in Hot Springs.
This series was shot in the historic High School building, where Bill Clinton attended high school during the early 60's when he lived in Hot Springs.
I used a Fuji S3 and Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens. Natural window light and in some instances an SB800 for fill.
